Preppy in the Park {Collaboration}

The few days I spent in New York last week were filled with new memories, incredible opportunities, and endless inspiration. Who would've ever guessed that a "work trip" could be so fun! To start off, I thought I'd share what I wore on Day 2 of Live Smart NYC. I wanted to wear something professional, yet fun and comfortable. This was one of those outfits that looked way fancier than it felt. A soft tee and breezy skirt was especially nice since it was so humid. After the conference, a few of us bloggers decided to stroll through Central Park, take a few pictures, and (of course) stop for ice cream. Honestly, my Smart Girls Group friends are just my kind of people. Though we may be spread throughout the country, this is the one time of year when many of us are able to come together to share our passions, have so much fun, and shamelessly Instagram it all! I'm already missing these girls so much and am counting down the days until next year. Be sure to check out what Caroline, Frannie, and Renee wore on Day 2 of Live Smart NYC!

Vintage Details

One thing that I love about living so close to SF is being able to discover all of the hidden gems in the city. My bestie and I made a day trip a few weeks ago and stumbled upon Industrie Denim, a designer denim warehouse meets vintage shop. Although most of the store was way too expensive for me (we're talking $2,500 pants), there was the most amazing sale room I have ever seen. For example, I snagged these Rag and Bone cords for $38. When does that happen?! Then when I found the vintage section, I realized I might actually be in heaven. Although it's a little itchy, I couldn't not buy this sweater. Because when else will I ever come across a hand knit vintage dog sweater? I paired my outfit with my favorite leopard flats and, of course, Starbucks. Have you ever gone vintage shopping?

Pink + Grey

photos by Bill Payne

Happy Sunday! Nothing is better than fresh flowers and sunshine! These perfect warm and breezy days have driven me outside. Whether I'm doing homework, reading, or snapping the occasional outfit post, I constantly prefer to stay in the sunshine! I've been wearing this outfit (or some similar version) so often lately. I love how simple, comfortable, and feminine it is. The little details like my double pearl earrings definitely dress it up, too. They're not for everyone, but I am obsessed! What do you think of double pearl earrings?

I Am Thankful For...

Happy Thanksgiving! What better way to celebrate this wonderful holiday than with a giant pink balloon?! I spent this past weekend shooting a few upcoming blog posts, including this one! Thank you so much Bill Payne Photography! I couldn't be happier with how the photos turned out! Today's outfit post is what I will be wearing for dinner tonight. The three-quarter sleeves on this jacket keep it light but add the perfect structure. I found this dress at Forever 21 years ago, but linked another really cute and similar option. I love the subtle sparkle (and the fit and flair is perfect for hiding that Thanksgiving dinner food baby!).

Today, I am going to wake up, watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, do a little baking, and then head over to my grandparent's house for a HUGE meal. This day is full of tradition and family fun, but it also holds something even more awesome: a time to reflect. Personally, life's busyness just gets in the way of being grateful sometimes. I rush from one task to the next and don't make time to just take it all in. I am so blessed. We are all so blessed. The statement "I'm thankful for..." seems so fitting because there are so just many things in life to have gratitude for. The list endlessly goes on, which is why the "..." is perfect. I am thankful for the turkey and cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes I will consume today, my absolutely wonderful family, being accepted to my first university this week (woohoo!),  my high school, my church, my friends, the opportunity I've had to travel, everything about this world of blogging, and the list goes on! In fact, I'm thankful for the not so great things that have happened too. Without the bad, we wouldn't be who or where we are today. Lately I've really taken this Bible verse to heart: Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." We may not know why something happens, but God sure does. He has our best interests in mind in every aspect of our lives. I hope you feel the love and blessings this Thanksgiving and every day! Finish this statement in the comments below: "I am thankful for..."

It's {Still} Fall Y'all

-

Please tell me that I'm not the only one who gets so annoyed by all of the holiday advertising, decorations, and red Starbucks cups before Thanksgiving has even passed? Every year, the holiday season seems to creep up even faster, and now, it's not uncommon to see stores deck the halls before Halloween! Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas! It is my favorite holiday. It just drives me crazy that Thanksgiving gets no love.

In honor of it STILL BEING FALL, I put together a fun (and very fallish) outfit. I picked up both this beautiful jeweled top and this classic skirt from my local J. Crew outlet on a huge sale and paired them with my favorite riding boots. Fun fact: I have terrible vision. Like can't-see-a-thing terrible. Usually, I never wear my glasses in public, but recently I ordered this pair from Warby Parker and fell in love! It really was so helpful to do the home try-on and then decide which pair worked best. Now I am wearing my glasses all the time, and couldn't help but add them to this outfit.

I hope you enjoyed this little reminder that it's not quite winter yet! Now I'll go back to being the Grinch, and wait until Black Friday to turn into Buddy the Elf! Happy Fall!

Feeling Fall Linkup

When I heard about the Feeling Fall Linkup that Carrie, Jamie, and Laura were hosting, I knew I had to participate! What's more fun than styling an outfit and answering a few fun fall questions? When choosing my outfit, I decided to veer away from traditional dark fall colors and go with bright pinks, oranges, and neutrals. It's still pretty warm here (like 90 degrees), so piling on the dark and heavy layers just wasn't an option. My favorite things about this outfit? The buttons on the shoulder of my sweater and how versatile my scarf is! I've had it for a few years and when fall and winter roll around, I wear it all. the. time. This post was such a blast to style, shoot, and write. I can't wait to see how everyone else is "feeling fall!"

What is your favorite fall trend? I really love how incorporating leather into your wardrobe isn't just limited to boots and purses this season. I've been seeing more leather accents than ever before! Don't you think that the texture and color of this skirt I'm wearing (which was also featured on College Prepster) screams fall?
What is your favorite fall Starbucks drink? Carmel Apple Spice. I know the traditional fall drink is a PSL, but I just cannot stand the unnatural color and flavor. The Carmel Apple Spice is a great alternative because it has a festive flavor without being over the top.
If you could only wear one pair of boots for this whole fall season, which pair would they be? Lately it hasn't been getting cold enough here in California to wear bulky and warm boots. I love how these Jimmy Choo booties completely capture the essence of fall yet still stay light and versatile. Which color do you like best? I'm leaning toward ebony, but sandalwood is also so cute. Maybe I'll take both ;) Just kidding. With a $995 price tag, the only place I'll be wearing these gorgeous boots is in my dreams!
What is your favorite fall activity? Every Halloween, my family puts on "The House of Payne" in our garage. Friends, family, and neighbors come to our haunted house (which, by the way, is realllyyy scary) and it is always such a great way to spend the night! With the last name of Payne, how can we not go all out for the spookiest time of year?!

Thanks CarrieJamie, and Laura for hosting this linkup! It was so much fun. Do you have a fall staple for your wardrobe? I'm headed to do some outlet shopping after my SAT and would love some suggestions! Have a happy SATurday! ;)

First Lilly Pulizter Purchase

-

Recently I bought my first Lilly Pulitzer item. Being from the West Coast, I had never even heard of Lilly Pulitzer until this summer when I traveled across the country and met the most wonderful, preppy blogger friends! Apparently over there, Lilly Pulitzer is like a uniform or something. ;) Fast forward a few months to when I visited San Diego and picked up this beautiful peplum tank at one of the two stores in California that carry Lilly Pulitzer. The tank isn't one of the "classic" Lilly Pulitzer prints, instead it has a simple eyelet design, which is perfect for me. Since the top is so clean and simple, these electric blue Kate Spade heels and this neon tassel necklace were the perfect additions to my outfit. I had so much fun wearing this Lilly Pulitzer tank while staying true to my California style!

Under The Weather

-

Whenever I get too busy and overwhelmed, my immune system is the first thing to go. Truthfully, I knew I was getting sick days before it actually hit me. I had a terribly sore throat, chills, headache, and zero energy for a solid three days. It was great to catch up on some rest, and getting sick was a good reminder that I need to give myself time to chill everyday. Even if it's just half an hour fit into your busy schedule, taking a little time to yourself each day will make for a healthier body and mind. I give credit to Sleepytime Peach Tea, Gossip Girl reruns, and these incredible Lou & Grey drawstring pants for making me feel better!

PS: By no means do I look even semi-presentable when I'm actually sick. I usually go for an oversized t-shirt, but I figured getting sick was a good reason to do a loungewear post. ;)
