Under The Weather

-

Whenever I get too busy and overwhelmed, my immune system is the first thing to go. Truthfully, I knew I was getting sick days before it actually hit me. I had a terribly sore throat, chills, headache, and zero energy for a solid three days. It was great to catch up on some rest, and getting sick was a good reminder that I need to give myself time to chill everyday. Even if it's just half an hour fit into your busy schedule, taking a little time to yourself each day will make for a healthier body and mind. I give credit to Sleepytime Peach Tea, Gossip Girl reruns, and these incredible Lou & Grey drawstring pants for making me feel better!

PS: By no means do I look even semi-presentable when I'm actually sick. I usually go for an oversized t-shirt, but I figured getting sick was a good reason to do a loungewear post. ;)

Midweek Pick-Me-Up

-
Am I the only one whose week seems so be flying by so far? It's like these past few days have been on fast forward or something. Even though I love that buzz of energy that weeks like these give, there is something to be said for taking a moment to slow down and hit pause on the excitement and busyness. I thought I'd share these lovely links that I took a look at during my chill time. They sure brightened up my day and I hope they do the same for you!

1. Monogram + Tortoise Shell iPhone Case
This might just be my favorite phone case I've ever owned. It's (kind of) a DIY, too. First, I purchased the Case Mate Tortoise Shell iPhone 5 Case on sale for $18, then I ordered a $2 Monogram Decal in soft pink and stuck it on the back of the case. Voila! You've got yourself a custom iPhone case for just $20!

2. What Happens When You Filter Out Reality?
One of my favorite bloggers, Carly Heitlinger, recently featured a guest post by another blogger I love, Maxie McCoy. Her post discussed the blurred lines between real life and social media life and made some points that had never even crossed my mind. A must read.

Heads up: I'm totally OCD and had way too much fun reorganizing my Pinterest boards this past weekend. Be sure to check out some of the fall trends and ideas for my 18th birthday that I've been pinning lately!

My new favorite Instagram account is I Have This Thing With Floors. The account posts pictures of pretty floors, no other explanation needed. Just go check it out.

I was so excited to guest post as part of the adorable Maggie Royce's "Letters to Freshmen" series. It was really cool to write on behalf of the Class of 2015, especially since my brother is a freshman this year. Check out my letter to the incoming freshman class and make sure to give Maggie's site some love!

I hope you've been having a wonderful week. Have you come across any lovely links lately? Share by commenting below!

Growing

-
My family and I moved into our neighborhood just over ten years ago, right around the time I was starting school. It was a brand new sub division, so some of my first memories of our neighborhood include lots of dirt, construction workers, loud noises, and these little baby trees. These newly planted trees were essentially twigs that couldn't even stand on their own. I think I remember these trees so well because I've kind of grown up with them.

Getting the mail has always been my responsibility. Almost every day since we moved, I've made the same short walk to the mailbox. As I was walking to get the mail yesterday, I realized that when I started getting the mail as a little girl, those trees that line the street were way smaller.

I was six when I started making that daily walk, and now I'm almost eighteen. Just like those trees, I used to be small and wimpy and fully dependent on others. Now, for both the trees and I, that's not the case. It's crazy how day to day, you don't notice change, but over the years it's shocking how drastic it can be.

For example, since the beginning of my school career, we've taken First Day pictures in the same exact spot in our garden. It's definitely the same garden and the same Hannah, but you almost wouldn't be able to tell. Growing is weird that way, it sneaks up on you.

Playlist No. 1

image via

I've been reorganizing my room these past few days, which means that my speakers have been blasting virtually every song on Spotify nonstop. There is just something about really great music that gets me inspired! I've especially loved listening to these few songs lately! I will admit, its a pretty random playlist. There's everything from Indie to Pop to even Dubstep (um, what?). Whether you're dancing around the kitchen or needing an energy boost to help get through homework, I hope this playlist keeps you inspired! What music has been inspiring you lately?

Back To School

-

Senior year really snuck up on me. For as long as I can remember, I've been prepared with my outfit sitting out and ready to go weeks before it was time for school to start. That wasn't the case this year. I tried going shopping three separate times, and still ended up in the mall the night before school started shopping until 45 minutes after it had closed. I still have no idea how I wasn't escorted out of that place by a security guard! Luckily though, I found my first day outfit! And I couldn't be happier.

It was so hard to find an outfit because I put too much pressure on myself! I told myself I had to wear a dress that had to be a specific style that had to be from a certain store. To make things even more difficult, I found the perfect Kate Spade jewelry before I even knew if my outfit would match it. Yes- I bought a dress, but truthfully, it's nothing like I imagined. It's better! If I had gone shopping with an open mind, I think I would've found what I wanted much faster. I ended up randomly grabbing this dress off the sale rack at Banana Republic and fell in love when I tried it on. I'm still shocked that it even fit! I'm usually a 2 in dresses, and this was a 4 petite! I'm 5'9, so have never even considered trying petite clothes on. But hey, it works!

The great news is that I bought everything either on sale or at the outlets. The bad news is that it's a little more difficult to find the exact pieces online (so I apologize for the terrible links!).

Summer Travels

-
This summer has been...wow. It's been so incredible (and incredibly busy) that I can barely wrap my head around it! It's hard to believe that my senior year starts TOMORROW. I've been in denial about school starting since summer hit the midway point. Since I haven't been blogging long enough to have documented each and every adventure, I thought I'd do quick overview of the places I've visited with a picture to match.

June 16th-26th
Maui
So relaxing. And sunny. And beautiful. I chilled a little, explored a lot, and took advantage of every opportunity to eat as much pineapple as one can possibly eat! We traveled with some lifelong friends, which was so much fun. Highlight: kayaking a mile out to a cove where I got to swim with tons of sea turtles!

June 28th-July 6th
Lake Tahoe
This was a nannying trip, so it was definitely hard work- but such a great time. Being in LT for The Fourth felt so patriotic (the fireworks show was the best I've ever seen)! Also, I had the realization that North Shore is like the Hampton's of the West Coast. Highlight: Going on morning walks with the kids and admiring all of the bazillion dollar homes.

July 8th-10th
New York City
My parents completely surprised me with this trip, so you can just imagine how excited I was. I did so much in the short amount of time I was there. From staying in the hotel where Gossip Girl was filmed to exploring Central Park to going to the Smart Girls Conference, it was an absolutely perfect few days. Highlight: meeting the most AMAZING girls on this planet at the conference.

July 23rd-27th
LA and San Diego
The trip started with an audition in LA and a little shopping. Then we headed to San Diego where I nannied the sweetest little boy for the majority of my time. On my day off, I took my brother to Disneyland! Highlights: buying a Burberry scarf for like 90% off at a vintage shop in LA and eating my favorite Mickey-shaped beignets while watching the parade in Disneyland.

July 30
Chico
It was a perfect day to make the drive out to Bidwell Park for a bike ride! Highlight: the post bike ride sandwich and cappuccino I had from Tin Roof

I feel like I had the best summer and also no summer at all. It was a whirlwind for sure! But I loved it. If I could spend my life traveling, I would in a heartbeat. If you have any questions about where I stayed/where I ate/what I did, comment below! I would love to share, I just didn't think writing a post the size of a novel would be very interesting ;). What did you do this summer? Any travel spots you'd recommend?

Statement Shoes

-

Seriously, these shoes are crazy.

I purchased these Steve Madden wedges on a whim in like eighth grade and can probably count the times I've worn them on one hand. I love my wedges so much, but most of the time they end up sitting in the back of my closet. Since I'm pretty tall as it is, heels usually just make me look like a giant. I decided to (literally) step out of my comfort zone and wear them to dinner one night! The greatest thing about this outfit was how comfortable it was. The heels made my outfit dressy enough for dinner, so I could totally get away with wearing my favorite pair of white jeans and this super soft Madewell tee. Bonus: I was so surprised that by the end of the night, my feet didn't hurt one bit! I'm thinking I should wear my wedges more often.

A Few Facts

-
Hi, I'm Hannah! I can't even describe how excited I am to be writing my first blog post. I've been wanting to start a blog for the longest time, and this summer I finally decided to take the leap of faith and go for it! I'll be writing about life + style + travel + food + everything in between, so I figured I'd make a list of a few facts that might help you get to know me a little better!

  • Singing is my first love, and apparently I even sang before I could talk.
  • I've been working professionally as an actress and model since I was eight years old.
  • My mom is my best friend on this planet. #noshame
  • I live out of my day planner! Seriously I don't think I could function without it.
  • I love all things Disney, hence the Mary Poppins reference in my blog's name.
  • Speaking of Disney, I want to will be a princess at Disneyland. It's happening.
  • My favorite color is yellow because it's bright and happy and reminds me of sunshine.
  • I absolutely love reading, but I hardly ever have the time to during the school year. Which makes me very sad.
  • I am organized beyond belief in most aspects of my life, but when it comes to my room...its always a  disaster.
  • I hate exercising, but love being active (i.e. hiking, rock climbing, and of course shopping).
  • Even though it makes life crazy, I love being insanely busy. I feel so unproductive when I'm not constantly doing something!
  • I'd be happy having homemade chocolate chip cookies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • I've had to get stitches on my chin four different times…I'm definitely not the most coordinated person.
  • Out of all the places I've been, I would definitely say Paris is my favorite.
  • If I could, I would live out of a suitcase and travel 365 days year.
